Hunter charged after bullet enters home
A 26-year-old Potosi man faces a charge of endangering safety after a bullet from his rifle entered a home in rural Potosi on Friday and came within feet of hitting one of the residents, authorities said.
Michael Meier faces a charge of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded around 8:10 a.m. to 8389 Grant County U and discovered a hole in an exterior wall of the home. Deputies followed the bullet’s track through two interior walls and through a wooden chair spindle. The bullet struck a large metal gun safe in a bedroom and came to rest.
Homeowners Lawrence Kartman, 74, and Ruth Kartman, 65, were at home reading in the living room/dining room area when they heard the bullet enter the home.
The bullet missed hitting Ruth by about 8 feet.
Meier was about a half-mile from the Kartman home when he fired three shots at a buck with a Winchester bolt-action rifle, authorities said.
