CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Overall, five people were injured, none fatally, on Sunday, the second day of the shotgun deer season in Iowa.
Around noon in Monroe County, a deer slug hit Clint Morgan, 48, in the elbow. The Saucier, Mississippi native was with six others hunting, southwest of Blakesburg, when someone in his party fired a shot. Both men are being treated a Des Moines hospital.
In a separate incident, Stacy Marie Wiltfang, 32, of Halbur, was hunting with one other person north of Arion in Crawford County at approximately 3 p.m. While she was sitting, a bullet from a high-powered small caliber rifle penetrated her boot, but did not penetrate her foot. She was treated and released at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.
So far this year, there have been a total of 11 personal injury hunting-related incidents reported to the DNR.
