ALBANY, GA — According to Chris Carlisle with the Department of Natural Resources, so far this year, there have been 39 deer stand accidents in the state of Georgia.
29 of those accidents happened while the person was engaged in hunting, 10 of those were while the hunter was getting ready to hunt. There have been a total of 3 fatalities this hunting season involving deer stands as well.
Carlisle said most of the accidents occur while the hunter is entering or exiting the stands; he says during both of those times it’s usually dark outside so hunters need to be aware of the surroundings and cautious at all times.
