Turkey hunter shot in shoulder by wife
A Levy County man was able to drive himself and his wife out of the woods after he apparently was accidentally shot in his shoulder by his wife. The man’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
According to a preliminary report by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the incident happened around 8:15 a.m. Sunday at the McGee Branch Hunt Club off Levy County Road 343. The couple was identified as Arthur Conquest, 39, and his wife, Lori Conquest, 42, both of Bronson. They told investigators they were walking out of the woods after hunting for turkeys.
“While they were walking out they flushed a covey of quail, which surprised the wife (Lori) and she slipped in the mud,” said FWC spokeswoman Karen Parker. “They told us that her .12 gauge shotgun discharged accidentally and he was hit in the shoulder.”
Investigators said Arthur Conquest was able to drive the couple to the Levy Forestry Camp, a nearby women’s prison operated by the Florida Department of Corrections, where staff members called an ambulance for Conquest.
Parker said the incident remains under investigation but appeared by to be accidental.
