Hunter cited after creating ‘deer smorgasbord’ in woods

SANTA ROSA COUNTY — Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers recently cited a hunter who had created a “deer smorgasbord” near his stand in the Blackwater Wildlife Management Area.

As an officer watched, the hunter added more apples to the spread that already contained corn, apples, mineral blocks, sweet potatoes, mushrooms and white potatoes, according to FWC’s weekly report.

The officer approached the hunter and asked him about the baited area. He also noticed that the hunter had driven off the designated roads and damaged state lands.

The hunter was cited for baiting in a management area, driving off the road and damaging state property.

He was also told not to return until long after the “deer buffet” was gone, the report said.
