Canada: Two Ont. hunters fined $3,700 each for illegal moose hunting

Two southern Ontario men are facing $3,700 in fines each after illegally shooting a moose from a boat last October.

Spencer Palmer of Stevensville and Logan Bauer of Fort Erie were found in possession of a bull mouse on Oct. 9, in a wildlife management area north of Cochrane, Ont.

Conservation officers were in the area at the time conducting aerial moose hunting enforcement patrols, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry(opens in a new tab) (MNRF) said in a news release.

“The investigation revealed the bull moose had been shot from a motorboat by Palmer while Bauer operated the motorboat,” said MNRF officials.

Both Bauer and Palmer pleaded guilty to unlawfully discharging a firearm from a motorboat and possessing illegally killed wildlife, each were fined $3,700 and received one-year hunting licence suspensions for all species.

Justice Jean-Marie Blier heard the case remotely in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, on June 4.

The bull moose was seized by conservation officers at the time of the incident.
