Ontario Provincial Police charged one man with careless use of a firearm after another man was accidentally shot in the leg on Oct. 23.

At around 4:45 p.m., police, paramedic services and the local fire department were called out to a hunting incident in Nipissing Township, OPP said in a release Monday.

“Two people were on a boat on Lake Nipissing when a 12-gauge shotgun was discharged, striking one of the occupants in the leg,” police said.

“The injured individual was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

As a result, a 23-year-old Mattawa man was charged with careless use of a firearm.

Police seized the shotgun as part of the investigation. The boat was also seized for further examination.

  • The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on Dec.15.
