A hunter in British Columbia was treated at the hospital after being injured by a black bear shot during the hunt.

According to the Conservation Officer Service, the incident took place at 8 a.m. Thursday in McNulty Forest Service Road area, near Agur Lake.

The man was reportedly hunting with a companion and shot and wounded a black bear. When the man approached the bear, that he believed to be dead, it suddenly got up, attacked and knocked the man down.

The man fired another shot, but did not find the bear.

He was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials later found the bear carcass
