Three drew hefty hefty fines after pleading guilty to October 2022 hunting violations on a northwestern Ontario lake, the Natural Resources Ministry says.Tracker

Conservation officers on a remote moose enforcement flight on Lac Seul in northwestern Ontario found a hunting group that had killed a moose on Oct. 14, 2022, a ministry release said.

Investigation revealed two men shot a cow moose from a motorboat, the release said. The moose was shot 17 kilometres away from the moose tag holder; party hunting rules require hunters tino be within five kilometres of the tag.

A Kingsville man pleaded guilty to unlawfully hunting big game and discharging a firearm from a motorboat in a remote appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on Oct. 12, 2023, the ministry said. He was fined $9,000 and his hunting licence was suspended for a year.

An Essex man pleaded guilty to unlawfully hunting big game and discharging a firearm from a motorboat and a Wheatley man pleaded guilty to unlawfully invalidating a tag with respect to an animal killed by another person when their cases were heard remotely in a Sioux Lookout court Nov. 22, 2023, the ministry said. The Essex man was fined $8,500 and the Wheatley man, $2,000.
