A northern Ontario man has been fined $10,000 and received a two-year suspension of his Bear Management Area licence for providing unlicensed black bear hunting services.
Kenneth Vogan of Pelican Landing Resort in Morson, Ont., was convicted of “numerous” offences under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, the Ministry of Natural Resources said in a court bulletin Friday.
The court heard that between 2021-2022, Vogan was offering bear hunting services to non-resident hunters outside his designated management area.
Justice of the Peace Nancy Tulloch handed down the sentence on Jan. 16 in a Fort Frances courtroom.
The Ontario government said it is safeguarding black bear populations by ensuring commercial bear outfitters follow licencing rules and regulations.
