A Live Oak man who spread birdseed on his family ranch in the Sutter Buttes before hunting mourning doves with his friends in 2015 was convicted of illegal baiting by a federal jury Tuesday.
William Louis Filter, 46, was found guilty of unlawful baiting and unlawful taking of a migratory game bird by aid of bait, two misdemeanor violations of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
He faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a fine of $100,000, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert.
