EL DORADO COUNTY, CA – The body of a hunter, who was missing since Tuesday, was found Wednesday morning about 500 to 1,000 yards from where he disappeared by a search and rescue ground crew.
The man had been squirrel hunting with his friends, ate lunch, then separated from the group to find a different hunting location when he disappeared, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Lt. Bryan Golmitz said.
His friends reported him missing around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday when they couldn’t find him.
El Dorado County deputies assembled a search party of around 25 to 30 people. Mounted units, off-road vehicles and K-9 units all scoured a two-mile radius through the night in frigid temperatures, Golmitz said.
The hunter, described as an Asian man in his 50’s, was found around 9:30 a.m. wearing his hunting gear about 300 yards down a steep embankment.
Authorities are not releasing the man’s name.
Golmitz said detectives are investigating to figure out what happened and waiting for the autopsy results.
