A 66-year-old man was hospitalized after shooting himself while hunting at Las Ciengas National Conservation Area last week.

At 1:19 p.m. on Nov. 5th a person calling from a Sierra Vista number reported that his father had shot himself in the upper arm and was traveling west on a road heading towards the Empire Ranch Road.

“The victim had a loaded long rifle between his legs while sitting in the passenger seat of a truck when they hit a bump as they were riding down the road and the rifle went off hitting the victim in the left arm and exiting through the roof,” said Deputy Tom Peine of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
