Duck hunters rescued from Lake Mary waters

December 28, 2010

Two duck hunters were rescued by helicopter Monday morning after their boat capsized on Lake Mary.

According to information from the Flagstaff Fire Department, crews received word at about 10:30 a.m. of two people clinging to a capsized boat on Upper Lake Mary about 250 yards from shore. When rescuers arrived, one of the hunters was hanging onto the boat while the other was attempting to swim to shore.

A rescue helicopter pilot from the Arizona Department of Public Safety hovered above each hunter so that a paramedic could get a harness on them one at a time. The hunters were lifted to awaiting paramedics and treated for severe hypothermia. The two hunters were then taken to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment.

At the time of the incident, the air temperature was 36 degrees and winds were clocked at 13 mph.

The two men were identified as 37-year-old Russell Price and 25-year-old David Wilson, both of Flagstaff.

DPS estimates the men were in the water for about 30 minutes.
