Just before 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, Arkadelphia paramedics and first responders with the East Clark County Rural Volunteer Fire Department were summoned to an area off of Delong Road in eastern Clark County.

A Cabot man hunting on the Big Timber Wildlife Management Area reportedly fell 15-20 feet from his tree stand. He called 911 to report the fall and that he was suffering from a neck injury.

First responders drove through wooded areas to locate the hunter, then met paramedics who were standing by in an ambulance, Sheriff Jason Watson said. The hunter was med-flighted from the local medical facility to a Little Rock hospital for further treatment.

While the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission reported a 13-year low for hunting injuries in The Natural State, 10 of the 16 injuries reported in 2022 were from tree stands, the agency noted in September. Falls from tree stands remain the leading cause of hunting injuries and fatalities.

Saturday marked the opening day of modern gun season, the most popular weekend for Arkansas hunters.
