Spotlighting hunter shoots, flees, wrecks, faces charges

A Union Grove man is in jail after he was pinched for poaching.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Daryl Wilson was patrolling the Parches Cove area Tuesday night and saw a man in a pickup use the headlights on his truck to shine light on a group of deer. The man exited the vehicle and shot at the deer, killing one.
At that point, Wilson pulled up and turned on his blue lights. The man re-entered his truck and fled the scene.
Wilson gave chase, which was short-lived, as the suspect lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road, striking metal gates and fencing.
The individual was arrested and transported to the Marshall County Jail.
The 22-year-old is charged with DUI; attempting to elude arrest; two counts of criminal mischief; illegal night hunting; hunting by aid of a motor vehicle; hunting from a public road; hunting without a permit; and illegal possession of a prohibited beverage.
Bond for all charges is $12,500.
