The Alabama Department of Fish and Wildlife are investigating a hunting accident that claimed the life of an Englewood Elementary school student.

Investigators said 11-year-old Hudson Fife was shot and killed over the weekend in Dallas County near Selma. Dallas County Coroner Alan Dailey said earlier that day the victim was on land his family leases for hunting spending time with family and friends. The boy had left the group with his rifle and gone into a shooting house alone hours before his body was found.

According to Dailey, investigators believe shooting was accidental.

Tuscaloosa County School System Spokeswoman Terri Brewer said additional counselors were at Englewood today to speak with the boy’s classmates and other students.
