Surgery, knife accident can’t stop Alexandria pitcher
The knife Shanks shoved into his lower left arm in a winter hunting accident could have been a major setback.
It wasn’t.
Neither extensive surgery nor a stubbornly alive deer would rob Shanks of his senior year because he wouldn’t let it.
…
He was hunting during Christmas break and thought the deer in the back of his truck was dead, but the animal startled. Shanks grabbed his knife and tried to finish off his kill but missed and drove the knife into his lower left arm, missing a major artery in his wrist by a half inch.
He jumped in the truck and was off to the emergency room. Two hours later, the deer was dead in the back of the truck.
