Two Montana men face charges for illegally killing a brown bear on national wildlife refuge in Alaska.

Richard McAtee, 46, and Arlon Franz, 51, are accused of conspiring to transport a brown bear they killed in the Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge.

The indictment alleges the men were hunting without a contract with a master guide and killed a brown bear before the legal season opened.

After killing the bear, the men allegedly transferred the hide from the Alaska Peninsula to a local hunting lodge, to Port Moller and then to Anchorage.

Both men could face five years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
