APPLE VALLEY • Three months after a 15-year-old slipped and accidentally shot his father in the leg during a family hunting trip, an Apple Valley man will be honored for his role in helping to save the father’s life.

Broussinos made his way down the tricky terrain until he found a teenage boy who told him he’d slipped, his gun had discharged and his father had been shot. Heconfirmed the teen and his 12-year-old brother had a tourniquet on the father’s thigh and told the boy he’d go for help.

Satchell’s nephew is doing well now, he said, even walking without crutches on a temporary prosthetic leg. He’ll be doing even better when he’s fitted for his permanent leg, Satchell said.
