A simple case of a trespassing hunter leads to a bigger investigation. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says 29-year-old Donald Runyon was illegally in possession a firearm while deer hunting.
Runyon was cited December 17 of trespassing while hunting near Hepburn, Iowa. He pleaded guilty January 4 and paid $397.50 in fines and court costs.
Five days later, he was arrested after it was realized he should not have had a gun in the first place.
Runyon was once convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence which prohibits him from possessing firearms. A violation is a Class D felony.
Runyon was released on a $5,000 cash bond. A court date has not been set.
The investigation involved the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa State Patrol, the Page County Sheriff’s office, Clarinda Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
