GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – A hunting guide from Grand Junction faces federal charges for allegedly illegally staging mountain lion hunts in Colorado and Utah. Marvin Ellis is accused of working with other hunting guides to trap mountain lions and bobcats days before bringing clients to kill the animals. He worked for a hunting guide located in Mack.
Court documents say that on some occasions, Ellis trapped the lions in leg-hold snares so they couldn’t escape, once even shooting an animal in the leg. Ellis and the guides are also accused holding bobcats or mountain lions in cages until their clients got there to shoot them, in addition to not having proper hunting licenses. Ellis faces up to five years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine.
