A 44-year-old man died Monday night after falling from a tree stand while hunting deer in a remote, wooded area of south Forsyth near the Chattahoochee River.
Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers said the incident, which occurred about 5 p.m. Monday off Old Atlanta Road, was reported by the man’s teenage son, who also fell about 15 to 20 feet from the stand.
Authorities have identified the man as Jeffery Lane McBryant of Forsyth County. The name of the son, who was injured in the fall, has not been released.
According to Shivers, the son was conscious and “able to walk around,” but his father was “unresponsive, unconscious and not breathing.”
Forsyth County Coroner Lauren McDonald confirmed that McBryant was pronounced dead on the scene.
The son, Shivers said, was taken by ambulance to Northside Hospital-Forsyth with “injuries due to the fall and as a precautionary measure.”
Sgt. Lee Brown with the DNR declined to discuss specifics of the incident, noting only that it happened near Chattahoochee Pointe, a new Forsyth County greenspace park.
