An Augusta couple has been charged after being caught hunting without permission in the Hephzibah area on Monday, authorities say.

The landowner contacted state Department of Natural Resources law enforcement after seeing William Shores and Jessica Tice hunting on his property. The landowner told officers they were attempting to steal his feeder and deer camera when he approached them.

DNR Cpl. Ben Payne said it was also determined the two had smoked methamphetamine prior to hunting without permission.

Shores was charged as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and also with theft, hunting without permission, hunting without hunter safety course, hunting without license, hunting without big game license and hunting deer without florescent orange.

Tice was issued citations for hunting without permission, hunting without hunter safety course and hunting without license. She was issued warnings for hunting without big game license and hunting deer without florescent orange.
