Deer Season Brings about Accidents in Illinois (IRN)-Friday was the first day of firearm deer season in Illinois, and already there have been a handful of accidents.

Two hunters in Union County fell from their tree stands Friday morning. Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Januari Smith says the two men were taken to hospitals with serious injuries.

Smith says another hunter in Montgomery County rested his loaded shotgun against a tree as he was taking a picture, when the gun slipped and accidentally fired, striking him in the arm.

The DNR is encouraging everyone to use caution while in the woods and fields and those with tree stands should use a harness to prevent falls.

Firearm deer season runs through Sunday. The second weekend runs from Dec. 2-5. Bow hunting is prohibited during those dates
