A Middleboro woman barely escaped with her life Monday morning after the boat she was in capsized and sent her and a Kingston man into the cold waters of the Cordage Channel in Plymouth Bay.
Plymouth Harbor Master Chad Hunter said the couple was in a 12-foot aluminum skiff, headed out to go clamming just after 6 a.m. on Monday when water started coming over the stern. Although life jackets were onboard, it happened so quickly neither was able to get one on.
Hunter said waters are in the 40s and hypothermia immediately set in.
The Kingston man managed to make it to a mud flat and the woman clutched Channel Marker number 6, barely holding onto her life jacket.
Three men fishing for stripers at Bug Light responded to the Kinston man’s cries for help and found the woman clinging to the channel marker.
Hunter said couple was taken to Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, treated for hypothermia and released. Hunter decline to release the victims’ names.
