Peter Grover was issued a citation for using an illegal trap after his device snared a lynx south of Silverton.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife received an anonymous tip through its Operation Game Thief Hotline, naming Grover as the person who trapped the lynx, wildlife officials say.

Fortunately two wildlife officers were able to release the lynx from the leghold trap and it was expected to survive.

Any type of leg-hold traps, snares or body gripping devices are illegal in Colorado. And because it is listed as a “threatened” species by the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service (federal) and as “endangered” by the state of Colorado, trapping a lynx is illegal.
