The Yukon Coroner’s Service says a Whitehorse man is dead after being charged by a bison west of the city.

Chief Coroner Heather Jones says two hunters shot a bison early Saturday morning and saw it fall to the ground.

Jones says the bison was able to get up and charge as one hunter walked toward it while the second hunter went back to retrieve an A-T-V.

A release says the animal was shot several more times and died about 100 metres from where it first fell, but not before fatally injuring 43-year-old Terry Still.

The coroner identified Still and says he had been hunting with his wife and a family friend.

An investigation by Haines Junction RCMP, Environment Yukon and the coroner continues. (CKRW)
