BARSTOW • Police suspended the search for a missing elderly man Friday after covering an estimated 4,000 miles of desert where they believe the man may have gone hunting the day he went missing.
Paul Nies, 73, taught hunting safety classes and went hunting often, despite having serious heart conditions and requiring dialysis and daily medication, according to Barstow Police Det. Keith Libby. Police believe Nies planned to go coyote hunting in the desert Tuesday and return home that night. When he didn’t, his wife reported him missing.

“We’re suspending the search at this time because we don’t have any current accurate information as to where he may be,” Libby said. “We checked all the areas the family has provided, but we haven’t located him.”
