SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — Fish and Wildlife police are asking for the public’s help identifying two men accused of illegally killing a black bear on private property near Oso.
VIDEO: Two men rush up to a small, deceased bear, accused of trespassing
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police said they received a tip from an Oso resident that two men were allegedly hunting while trespassing on private property.
The incident was recorded on camera Sept. 20, just before 7 p.m., according to investigators.
According to WDFW Police, the video shows two men rushing up to a small, deceased bear.
The video shows one man carrying a rifle, and a second man picks up the bear and carries it out of frame.
In the background, a square “no trespassing or hunting” sign is posted, and several additional “no trespassing or hunting” signs are visibly posted in the area.
WDFW Police said that although fall black bear season is open, the men allegedly poached the bear on clearly marked private property where they did not have permission to be and that does not allow public hunting access.
The department is asking anyone with information about the case — including the weapon shown or the whereabouts of the bear — to report it to WDFW Police by calling 877-933-9847, emailing reportpoaching@dfw.wa.gov, or texting a tip to 847411.
