The search for Kaden Sites continues in the rugged terrain surrounding Mt. Shavano after he failed to return from a turkey hunting trip last Wednesday.
Authorities report that Sites’ vehicle was discovered near the Blanks Cabin Trailhead, prompting an extensive search operation in the area. Sites, a Salida resident, is described as a 6-foot-2, 160-pound white male with light brown hair, a goatee, and a mustache. He was last seen wearing a green, black or grey hoodie, ripped khaki pants, and hiking boots.
Search efforts have ramped up significantly, with approximately 140 personnel deployed on the ground, including drone teams assisting in aerial surveillance. Officials have also brought in specialized technical teams equipped with advanced search technology to aid in the operation. So far, crews have covered more than 2,700 linear miles, but Sites has not yet been located.
Despite the challenging circumstances, community support has been strong. Local residents have provided food, lodging, and essential supplies for search teams working tirelessly in the field.
Andy Rohrich, Chaffee County Sheriff, emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on the search efforts. In a recent update, he urged the public to keep both searchers and the Sites family in their thoughts, while also asking community members to avoid entering the search area.
“We appreciate all the community’s support and willingness to jump in and help,” Rohrich said. “However, we need our teams fully focused on finding Kaden.”
Search operations remain ongoing as authorities continue to follow leads and expand coverage in the Mt. Shavano region.
