The Louis “Grizz” Scafetta Memorial Award committee recently held its annual recognition ceremony at the Scafetta property in Byron, naming Weston and Gunner Humphrey of Le Roy as this year’s 2026 award recipients.
The award, established to foster youth participation in hunting and wildlife conservation, provides each recipient with a New York State lifetime hunting license. The program focuses on maintaining safe and ethical hunting traditions in the Genesee County region.
The Humphrey twins, who both attend school in Le Roy, were selected from a pool of applicants aged 14 to 18 who reside in or attend school within Genesee County. To qualify for the award, candidates must have completed the New York State Hunter Education course and demonstrated at least one year of active hunting experience.
Selection criteria for the memorial award included:
- Written responses regarding conservation and ethics
- Prior hunting experience
- Community involvement
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and integrity in the field
- Verified parental support
Both Weston and Gunner are active in local athletics, including soccer, and participate in fishing and trap shooting.
