A 25-year-old Portland man was arrested for illegal hunting, trespassing and animal cruelty offences on Friday, July 20.
Following an extensive investigation by the Department of Primary Industries, Game Licencing Unit (GLU) and the Rural Crime Prevention Team, the man was arrested and charged at Lithgow Police Station.
The man is alleged to have hunted illegally on both public and private land, and has been charged with offences under the Game and Feral Animal Control Act, the Summary Offences Act, Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act and The Forestry Act.
The man was charged with over 100 offences relating to illegal hunting, trespassing and animal cruelty in relation to ‘pigging’.
Investigators from GLU and Orana Mid-Western Police District Rural Crime Investigators will allege that the offences were committed in the Burraga, Sunny Corner, Wollar, and Bylong areas as well as other localities throughout the Central West.
The man has been granted conditional bail to appear at Lithgow Local Court on Thursday, August 30.
