Two people were killed Sunday in unrelated hunting accidents, one in Tallapoosa County, the other in Blount County.
The first happened just after 6:30 a.m. in the Pineywood community near Lake Martin. Alexander City police Capt. Mario Hodge identified the victim as 50-year-old James Raymond Landers.
Hodge said a hunter was on the property and had set up in his tree stand, ready to hunt. He was hunting with a gun.
Landers, he said, then went onto the same property to bow hunt. As Landers was going toward his tree stand, the other hunter fatally shot him. Landers, Hodge said, wasn’t wearing orange safety reflective clothing.
The second fatality happened just before dark in Blount County’s Hopewell community. The Blount County Coroner’s Office identified that victim as Adam Scott Jordan, 37, from Arab.
Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington said the victim was among three people who were hunting together Sunday afternoon. Someone in the group shot Jordan, and it is believed to be accidental. That is, however, part of the ongoing investigation.
Last weekend, on Jan. 4, a Birmingham man was killed in what police believe was a hunting accident in Sumter County. Hunter Collier, 26, was found dead in his shooting house. Investigators believe a stray bullet killed Collier. He was found shot in the in hip, sitting in his chair in the shooting house.
