FAIRBANKS — Two local men were charged with wanton waste of big game last week after one of their sons evidently illegally shot a cow moose off Chena Hot Springs Road in August and the hunting party made no attempt to salvage the animal.
Michael Paul Annunziato, 36, of Fairbanks, and William Perry Hughes, 44, of Fort Wainwright, were both charged with wanton waste of big game. Annunziato also was charged with violating conditions of his hunt permit.
According to a criminal complaint, Annunziato and Hughes were moose hunting with their sons on Aug. 16 when two witnesses saw one member of the party shoot a cow moose accompanied by a calf at 37.5 Mile Chena Hot Springs Road.
The moose ran into the woods and the men left the area without going after it, the witnesses told troopers. They gave troopers vehicle information and a description of the hunters.
