ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – A hunter who was bitten in the head by a brown bear managed to escape the attack with only minor injuries to his scalp.
The Anchorage Daily News reports that 48-year-old Rodd A. Moretz was attacked Saturday by the bear after he killed another bear on Kodiak Island.
The Fairbanks man told Alaska State Troopers that he was approaching a bear he had just shot, but his path took him near a bear den.
Troopers say that’s when a brown bear came out, charged him and they rolled about 50 feet down a hill after colliding. Moretz was able to get away, and the bear went back to the den.
