ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska State Troopers say they now believe a rural teenager was wounded when he accidentally shot himself in the left calf and that he was not hit in the leg by a bullet fired by someone else.

An investigating officer last week reported the 15-year-old boy had said he was shot Thursday night as he walked along the Yukon River on his way home to Alakanuk (ah-LUHK’-a-nuhk). The boy was on a hunting trip.
