Bossier Sheriff’s detectives have determined the shooting in Plain Dealing that sent a father and son to the hospital Saturday morning was accidental, and have charged the shooter with criminal trespassing.
Sheriff’s investigators said they charged Willard Carpenter, 57, with criminal trespassing following the shooting of the unidentified 49-year-old man and his 17-year-old son.
According to investigators, the two were shot gunned by Carpenter after he crossed into a private hunting lease area while squirrel hunting. They said Carpenter fired his shotgun loaded with No. 6 shot at a squirrel, without realizing the two other hunters were standing about 50 yards away. Some pellets reportedly hit the 17-year-old in the face while his father was hit as well.
Both of the shooting victims are at LSU Hospital with their precise conditions not immediately available, but stable, according to authorities.
