“About one-third of the citations written (about 54) were for loaded guns in a vehicle,” Joe Forest, Department of Natural Resources warden supervisor in Dodgeville and head of an eight-person team, which includes wardens in Grant, Green, Iowa, Lafayette and Richland counties, said. “Other cases are still being investigated.”
Nine hunters were cited for shooting from, across or within 50 feet of the road’s centerline. One hunter shot five antlerless deer from the road and received, among other penalties, a three-year license privilege revocation.
Having illegally placed tree stands, transporting illegal deer, hunting after closing time, and not having proper blaze orange violations were noted, too.
Four hunters were cited for baiting, nine hunters did not validate their carcass tags correctly, and three mentoring hunters were cited for various violations.
One hunter was cited for driving deer with an ATV and one hunter was contacted who had an arrest warrant and should not have been hunting.
