Rick Thomas Butler, James Lee Butler, and Bennett Wayne Fendley were charged Wednesday in connection with several geese being killed Sunday at the Pine Knolls Golf Course in eastern Forsyth County, authorities said.
The men didn’t have a state or federal permit to kill the geese, Sgt. Carey Bostic, an enforcement officer with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission said. James Butler isn’t accused of killing the birds, Bostic said. Rick Butler and Fendley are accused of using shotguns to kill five geese, Bostic said.
Canada geese are protected under the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the state wildlife resources commission says on its website.
