ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) — Richard Olsen is calling it “a Christmas miracle”
that he survived being trapped overnight Dec. 19 on a frozen North Dakota field after breaking his leg on a pheasant hunting trip.
Olsen was hunting on a cousin’s land near Watford City, N.D. on Dec. 19. He stepped on a thin crust of snow that collapsed and dropped him four feet to the bottom.
His left femur snapped above the knee. He hobbled for 16 hours before being rescued. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital and underwent extensive surgery on his leg and treatment for frostbite on his fingers.
