Tom Essig lost his vision after a buckshot impacted his face, throat and chest in a turkey hunting accident on April 21.
Tom and his close friend were turkey hunting in Custer County, NE when they separated for a short time.
A turkey appeared between the pair, and Essig heard a shotgun blast. He was hit by the dispersal of BBs and pellets.
Essig underwent major surgery that left a long, hook-shaped scar across the front of his neck where a BB partially penetrated the wall of the carotid artery, which supplies blood to the brain and neck.
