NY: Hunter tagged with $5K in fines for poaching deer

Matthew Feil, 33, pleaded guilty Jan. 3 in Livonia Town Court to six charges relating to the illegal poaching of multiple deer over the course of several months.

The Department of Environmental Conservation began investigating Feil Dec. 4 for alleged criminal acts dating as far back as Oct. 2.

During that timeframe, Feil illegally killed three bucks, illegally possess3ed deer tags from other hunters, improperly co-signed deer tags, improperly tagged deer, failed to tag deer and illegally used a Big Game season buck tag on a bow-killed deer.

As a result of his guilty plea, Feil paid $5,540 in poaching fines and surcharges Thursday in Livonia Town Court.
