Convention takes aim at getting young hunters involved in the sport

DeerFest looks to hook next generation of hunters
STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) – An annual convention in Stevens Point is looking to inspire the next generation of hunters.
DeerFest is aimed at preparing hunters ahead of the start of deer hunting season. That includes hunters of all ages.
“The average age of hunters is increasing, every single year, exponentially,” said Kasey Morgan, one of the owners and organizers of DeerFest. “And so the more we can generate interest from our youth, the brighter the future looks for hunting as a whole in the state of Wisconsin.”
Children’s activities at DeerFest include a scavenger hunt, an archery tournament, and a bouncy castle.
There are also seminars focused on how to help young hunters to take up the sport.
Morgan said there are many events throughout Wisconsin hunting season that give young hunters an opportunity to take part.
“I think the number one thing that gets youth and kids involved is the camaraderie aspect in the family, like, generationally hunting, getting together with your friends and family,” said Morgan. “And that really jump-starts the whole venture into the outdoors.”
DeerFest takes place August 14th – 16th at the Holiday Inn Convention Center at 1001 Amber Avenue in Stevens Point.
