The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced Monday that a Green Lake County court convicted a 55-year-old man of illegally shining and harvesting multiple deer.
Timothy Tiedt, formerly of Fond du Lac County and now living in Taylor County, was found guilty in Green Lake County Circuit Court. The court sentenced him to 60 days in jail, revoked his hunting, fishing and trapping privileges for six years, and imposed financial penalties.
Timothy was accompanied by Austin Tiedt, 19; Randy Pietschmann, 46; Kaden C. Cummings, 22; and Robert Ryan, 36, according to the DNR.
Authorities said Timothy was the group’s sole driver and shooter. None of the five lived in Green Lake County when the alleged illegal activity occurred in 2024 and 2025.
The investigation began late in 2025 while Warden Brad Latza was on night patrol. A call over police radio reported that a couple had found a buck believed to have been struck by a vehicle. At the scene, a local deputy determined that the deer had been shot with a crossbow bolt.
Later that night, Latza saw a vehicle moving slowly through the same area while someone shined a light across the landscape. The vehicle stopped at the end of a road, turned around and passed through the area again while shining a light. When Latza approached, the shooter was standing in the roadway with a crossbow.
Latza then obtained the crossbow bolt from the local deputy and contacted the couple who found the deer. Those findings led wardens to investigate and interview the five people, who had varying levels of involvement.
Pietschmann was convicted of possessing a crossbow while shining. He was ordered to serve 20 days in jail, pay fines and forfeit hunting, fishing and trapping privileges for six years.
Ryan was fined for shining after 10 p.m. and shining and possessing a weapon. Austin and Cummings were charged with multiple civil forfeitures for shining wild animals. Both lost their privileges for three years.
Wardens Zach Feest, Kurt Haas and William Hankee assisted with the investigation.
