Missing man found dead following weeklong search after not returning from hunting trip

4/26/2026

Colorado authorities say a missing man who never returned from a hunting trip has been found dead.

According to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, the body of Kaden Sites, 27, was found Friday about 1.5 miles away from where his truck was left in the wilderness near Tabaguache Creek.

“Our hearts go out to the Sites family and friends,” Chaffee County Sheriff Andy Rohrich shared. “There was always a measure of hope that Kaden would be found alive. We are thankful the family will have some level of closure.”

Authorities said Sites went missing on April 15 after not returning from a solo turkey hunting trip near Shavano Mountain.

His vehicle was located during search efforts near the Blanks Cabin Trailhead. His cellphone was found inside, but there were no signs of him.

Loved ones said Sites only planned to be gone for a short time, expecting to return in time for an appointment later that day.

Search efforts included dozens of agencies and more than 100 searchers working together to cover miles of heavily wooded, off-trail terrain.

The Sites family said the uncertainty about what happened has been difficult, but the community’s response has brought comfort.

“We’re just feeling very fortunate that there are so many people who really care,” his sister, Hannah, shared while the search continued.

According to investigators, there is no indication of foul play at this time.

“Thank you to everyone who joined in the efforts to bring Kaden home. It is such a loving community we have,” Rohrich said.

Sites’ cause of death was not immediately released, pending further investigation.
