An 18-year-old Illinois resident has been arrested for allegedly killing at least 13 deer in Clinton County.

Ashden McArthur, of Carlyle, was taken into custody Wednesday by Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies and Illinois Conservation Police Officers. The arrest occurred after police seized evidence at locations in Clinton County and Marion County.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office stated that McArthur is suspected of using a .22-caliber rifle to shoot at least 13 deer from roadways at night with the aid of a spotlight on Oct. 24.

The deer carcasses were found in the unincorporated community of Boulder.

In an earlier news release, the Sheriff’s Office stated, “Law enforcement believes there to be more deer that have been shot but have not yet been located.”

The Sheriff’s Office added, “McArthur is facing multiple conservation violations as well as other criminal charges. We would like to thank the public for their assistance with the investigation.”
