Another hunter has died in the San Juan Wilderness, according to southern Colorado officials.

The Conejos County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a call for help on Friday at 11:23 p.m. They said it was reported that CPR was in progress.

When Search and Rescue got to the source of the call in the South San Juan Wilderness, they said they found that the victim had already died. At the time, they said nighttime conditions didn’t allow for a helicopter to retrieve the man’s body.

On Saturday, though, a Flight for Life helicopter did recover his body. Deputies said the victim was a 54-year-old man from Tennessee. Deputies said they will not release his name until next of kin has been notified.

So far, deputies have not said how he died.

This is the third hunter to die in the area, with two men being struck by lightning recently.

“Sheriff Crowther reminds everyone entering the wilderness to please be cautious and well-prepared for the challenges of the backcountry,” the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. “There is no threat to the hunting public or those observing the fall colors in the area.”
