Skunk-hunting Sarasota man accidentally shot himself with rifle while loading bullets Man expected to live through accidental shooting

A Sarasota man accidentally shot himself in the face with a .22 caliber long rifle Friday night.

Manatee County Sheriff Deputies say 31-year-old Daniel McDaniels was at his friend’s house at 10715 Robinson Road in Myakka City when the two spotted a skunk.

A report from the Sheriff’s office says McDonald got the gun out of his truck and put the the butt of it on the ground. Mcdaniels was loading rounds into the gun when his finger slipped and pulled the trigger.

The round entered through McDaniels’ left cheek and stayed in his head until he was transported to the hospital.

Deputies say McDaniels was alert and talking when he was transported, and injuries didn’t appear to be life threatening..
