Waterfowl hunter shot accidentally by brother

ELLISBURG – A town of Ellisburg man was listed in serious condition Monday following a weekend hunting accident at the Black Pond Wildlife Management Area in the town of Ellisburg.

Kyle M. Flagg, 24, Benton Road, apparently was shot by his brother, Rik, 30, just before 1 p.m. Saturday while the two were waterfowl hunting at the preserve, according to Stephen W. Litwhiler, state Department of Environmental Conservation spokesman in Watertown.

Mr. Flagg was taken by helicopter to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, where he was listed Monday afternoon in serious condition.

He indicated on his Facebook page that he was hit in the femur.

The incident remains under investigation by DEC officials, Mr. Litwhiler said.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and state police assisted at the scene.
